Characterization &
Performance Projects

Mel Shapiro

I hear you thinking... Another acting class? And on Zoom no less? How is that possible? Actors need to use their body, their voice, and other actors to pay attention and listen to. Are you trying to generate a world of talking heads?

Actors need an audience! Here's an answer: Let's try it and make it possible. Perhaps playing on Zoom will open up a new area of expression, creativity and imagination that you wouldn't normally tap into. Maybe we can develop a group of actors, directors, writers and tech people who will form the first Zoom based Performance Co.! But I'm getting ahead of myself

You ask... so what will we do in our collection of personal windows? How do we connect to ourselves, our character, our partner and an audience?

Building a Character

Gulu Monteiro

In this 6 week workshop, discover the building blocks and tools you can use to develop strong characters. From incorporating EDP Theory and Animal Work into your scenes, to exploring the physicality of emotions, participants and auditors will get a hands-on look at what it takes to Build a Character. Using 5 images (animal, nature's element and 3 adjectives) learn how to modify your body in such a way that your character will have his own feelings and thoughts. You'll then just enjoy and live his life, feel his feelings and think his thoughts. This workshop will explain how emotions are fundamentally physical actions/movements of muscles in the face, limbs and internal organs, and feelings are the mental representation of these actions and also the generator of conscious mind, rationality, imagination and creativity.
